Description:

Design of Structural Timber provides a comprehensive source of information on practical timber design, and introduces the nature and inherent characteristics of timber given in relation to the requirements of Eurocode 5 (EC5). The scope of the book ranges from an introduction to timber as a material, to the design of realistic structures including and beyond those usually considered essential for undergraduate study. Although written primarily for undergraduate civil and structural engineers, the book also provides an invaluable reference source for practising engineers in many building, civil and architectural design offices. Key features of the text include: / numerous relevant and detailed design examples presented in a format typical of that used in design office practice, / extensive, detailed explanations and worked examples in relation to the new loading codes for dead, imposed, snow and wind actions, i.e. EC and EC1, / fully updated design methods in accordance with the requirements of EC5. Readers are encouraged to make frequent reference to the appropriate design codes. William M C McKenzie graduated from Heriot-Watt University. After working as a design engineer for both contractors and consultants, he became a lecturer in structural analysis and design and is currently a Teaching Fellow at Napier University, where he is actively involved in teaching, consultancy and research. He is the author of four design textbooks with Palgrave Macmillan and also a structural analysis textbook. Binsheng Zhang graduated from Tongji University, Shanghai, China. After working as a research fellow for fourteen years at Glasgow University he became a structural engineering consultant in England. He is currently a lecturer in structural engineering at Napier University, Edinburgh, and is largely involved in teaching, research and consultancy.
